It's not clear why anyone would use this bank. Back when it was Astoria Federal, it was far better. Ever since, account fees have gone up which don't even include a hard-copy bank statement (that is extra) because they say you can access the statements online. Service is not that good and their 'limited' locations make me wonder why anyone continues to use this bank.

This was not 'my' primary bank as I was a POA who finally was able to close this account for good and use an actual bank that has tons of locations and actually appears to value it's customers.

Customer service is non-existent. less than 0 stars. cannot get a live person in the garden city branch where my 91 year old mom has banked for over 10 years. she needs to access her funds to pay urgent bills. tried their call back line several times and never got a call back. and, their managing director's "direct line" goes to the general robot number. shameful!

I have been banking with snb (and its predecessors) for 40 years. they have gone seriously downhill in the past year or so. i have been unable to pay bills online for 5 days. the website tells me that i need to call. when i do call the number listed, i am then forced to spend hours holding. no one responds. no one calls back. finally i got someone to talk to when i called the nyc branch. she promised me that tech support would call me. no one has called. i cannot access my bill pay. i have spent 5 days and more than 30 hours holding on the phone and/or explaining the issue. immediately upon calling the bank, a recording indicates that the "estimated wait time" is over 30 minutes - every single time i call. i wait the 30 minutes. i then either get disconnected again, or am told to wait "an estimated wait time" of more than 30 minutes. i am done with this bank.

This bank is the worst, with only one teller available for simple transactions. The staff is rude and very unprofessional. When I told the teller I wanted to see a manager, after the only teller available had been tied up with a customer for 20 minutes, she told me "Don't get loud with me!". When the Director of Finance arrived, she was even more rude than the teller!

Never in my life have I ever had a business manager tell me, when I complained about the inefficiency and long wait times, "This is how we do things here. Maybe we are not the bank for you." In other words, take your business elsewhere. Who talks like this to a customer of the bank for over 40 years (originally Astoria Federal, whose staff were at least to some extent, respectful, courteous and efficient)?

They changed their hours. Closed after 2pm in the afternoon, because of the pandemic. Meanwhile there are longer lines because they have shorter hours. Does that make any sense. Now we're on top of each other. Who in their right mind made up that rule. Yes check your receipts and bank books. I had to wait 3 months for them to fix a mistake that they made they said they never found it. Thank god I saved deposit slips. I want Astoria back.

I was eligible for the mortgage forbearance program due to covid and took advantage of it - boy what a mistake. I made arrangements verbally on the phone to make a half payment with a full payment, and pay off the two months I missed in 4 full/half payments, but the branches near me would not accept cash, even though I paid w cash since inception of the loan.

After many calls, and several attempts to pay back what I owed, I began asking for supervisors as the regular people on the phone WERE BEYOND INCOMPETENT. I would ask for a name or id number of the phone rep, and would call back and ask for that specific rep, and of course I hear "who?". They also would promise me the VERY NEXT DAY A SUPERVISOR WOULD CALL ME BACK, but of course that never happened.

They even asked me to make arrangements with my local branch to pay it off as described, but told them I cannot make such arrangements as I am a mere lowly customer, but they had the GALL TO CONTINUE TO TELL ME I NEED TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS, NOT THEM. The bank assistant manager also told me they cannot make arrangements to pay back the loan, and that was the realm of the people who service the loan, whose phone is on my monthly statement.

The phone reps - even the supervisors - are useless. NOT ONCE did a single person at Sterling take it upon themselves to be sure a supervisor would pick up where they left off, and have them call me back. The amount of wasted time on the phone calling them to resolve this is just unbelievable, and I am simply ASTOUNDED AT THE EXTREME INCOMPETENCE PRESENT WITH REGARDS TO THEIR PHONE REPRESENTATIVES AND THEIR SUPERVISORS.

Worst experience ever. I discovered a large sum of money withdrawn from one of my accounts. When I contacted a banker I was told to come in. I discussed the potential fraud. I was told that it was just a mistake and not to worry. After a week I was called at work and told that I had to come in and sign a document waiving the banks responsibility in the matter.

A month later, 2 more withdrawals, one of which was a savings account I never write checks from. The amounts totaled about 2000 dollars. Long story short, security is absent and they don't take responsibility to safeguard your money. Best thing I ever did was to move all my money to another bank. AVOID this bank!

They are the absolute worst bank to deal with! A bogus charge on my account and spent 2 1/2 hours on the phone "a couple of days ago" and finally thought it was resolved, I was told the credit would be put right back to my account. Well low and behold "A couple of days" later still nothing! I called early this AM and was given the option of a call back (the same # I called the other day) and was told wrong department and she would switch me to card dispute.

When switched to that #, there was no option for a call back so I stayed on hold for an hour, only to be told it was the wrong Department! Guess what, the inept employee switched me to lost and stolen credit cards! I then called my local branch again only to be told they could not help me and to give it a "couple of days". Really, in my book a couple of days is 2 and we are there!

I was also told it's not just a click of a button? Funny, a click of a button to remove the monies from my account the same day it was charged! Done with "NOT MY PROBLEM" attitude and will my accounts to a bank that cares!

This is definitely the worst bank in the entire world. If I could put 0 stars I would. I have fraud charges on my account probably once a month, and one person will say they put in a claim / sent a new card. then there's no claim or no card being sent. You'll be on hold for half an hour waiting to get through to someone and it will be "This isn't the right department. let me transfer you, " only to be on hold for another half an hour to be told the same thing. It's literally the worst bank and everyone on the phone is beyond stupid and unhelpful.

I used to live in Brooklyn, NY, and I had a CD which I continued to roll over until this year when I turned age 65. I decided to close the account but on the phone, it was suggested that I HAVE to go to the bank but I am over 300 miles away and Amtrak could take 10 to 12 hours in one direction. Besides, I was going to Florida. Luckily, I stumbled upon a woman named Tabinda who was VERY helpful, friendly, and calm.

If it weren't for her, I might have had to put my CD back for another 5 years - but who knows if I would survive another 5 years? The only "problem" is that my last name was spelled with an "A" instead of an "O" which happens but where I bank should easily recognize me so I should have no problem depositing the check. Thank you, Tabinda! Sterling National Bank in Brooklyn, NY is fortunate to have you working for them.

The Sterling National Bank is poor and disgusting bank. They anti-sematic and called Jewish religion and all Jewish people bad people at the Paramus new jersey branch. Absolute trash. I've suffered issues from long wait times with customer service, to being told four times that I had to go to a branch to activate my debit card (branch told me to call the number on the debit card to activate) to which the fourth customer service rep was able to activate the card over the phone, to problems closing my account. I absolutely detest this bank. The has terrible customer service and is racist. If I could give zero stars for the bank that would be too much.

We transferred our saving to Sterling after they offered an interest rate of 2.46%. It wasn't until we were doing our taxes this year that we noticed EVERY MONTH since joining, they have systematically (and with no notice) reduced the interest paid; 2.42, 2.29, 2.19, 2.10 and we'll assume that will continue. Disgusting and crooked!

This is for the customer service number 1-855-762-7500. So rude and unwilling to even listen to me or reverse a charge made in error. I will be pulling all funds from the asap. Ever since they took over from Astoria they have gone downhill. Zero stars should be an option. They are horrible.

Sterling national bank took over Advantage Funding ever since then it's been a nightmare dealing with anybody from customer service I do not recommend them stay far away it takes over two months to get a title after you pay off the car I'm on two months of asking for a pay off for a vehicle so I just want to get away from them horrible

This is the worst bank chain I have ever dealt with. Constantly shut out of ATMs since debit card not recognized. Customer service telephones constantly busy and hold time is endless.

Went to Sterling for a personal loan. Was told no problem based on credit score and salary (130K a year) I had 12K in credit card debt which I wanted to consolidate. Suggested Sterling cut checks directly to Credit card agencies. Get a letter of denial stating high credit card balances! Well the reason for the loan ***!I also get a hard hit on my credit as well.

Over the past two months, I have paid 9 of the 12K. Credit is now over 700 and all the cards haven't reach credit reporting agency. So what a waste of time even after the Manager called the underwriters, they just kept saying no, no no. Sterling also missed a good opportunity to make money. Im withdrawing as well as my family members and telling friends too. My family dates back to the Suffern Saving and Loan branches which are now under sterling. Waste of my time and a hit on my credit.

Worst customer service EVER. If you need to get someone on the phone, it's a 30-60 minute wait, and then they know NOTHING. They get everything WRONG, and you have to call back and wait another hour, for the next person to know NOTHING and get everything WRONG. Run don't walk to the next bank!

OMG! STAY THE HECK AWAY! I got a loan modification approved and then they continued to try and charge me over $7,500 in back payments when I had a written document stating that money was not owed. I'd call and be on the phone for hours. When I did reach someone they could not answer my questions and they'd transfer me to another department leading to even more delays. My experience with this company was absolutely HORRIFIC! WORST BANKING EXPERIENCE EVER!

If I could put ZERO stars I would! This comment is directed toward Sterling Bank overall, not this branch in particular. Ever since the switch was made from Astoria Bank to Sterling Bank, I have been locked out of my online banking acct too many times to keep count! Their telephone reps are the worse! They do not aim to keep account holders happy amidst the frustration of being locked out. No reassurance, no empathy, NOTHING! I am done with them. I will take my accounts elsewhere.

Wow. The absolute worst banking experiences in my 36 years. Our business account was taken over by SNB and since then we can not access our accounts online, every customer service representative we have worked with ends up either getting fired or quits, and their corporate services can only be reached through their general customer service line. It has taken over two months of my life to get anywhere with SNB.and yes, I finally was able to access our accounts FOR ONE WEEK and then afterward, bupkis.

So I start the loathsome process all over again. I feel for the customer service staff but I absolutely do not feel for middle or upper management who have brought this about. If we could access our money we would move it immediately.
