Community Action changes people's lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community and are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other as they move from poverty to self-sufficiency. I want to sincerely thank GECAC for opening so many doors for me and other Erie County youths. I will be forever eternally grateful.
Services
Whether you're delivering meals to the hungry, reading to children, protecting seniors in nursing homes, mentoring people trying to get ahead in life, or tutoring adults to improve their literacy skills, doing good connects you with others in meaningful ways. Each day, countless GECAC volunteers use their special talents to empower families and strengthen our community.
Throughout Erie County, we are looking for people who are excited by our vision to work toward a better future for our community by stabilizing households and promoting self-sufficiency. GECAC is committed to fostering a caring environment and creating a culture that makes GECAC a desirable place to work.
The purpose of the Needs Assessment is to identify current strengths, needs, and ideas for future services in our community. The Community Needs Assessment is a tool that provides GECAC with the means to capture information about our community, analyze the data, and identify the current challenges that need to be addressed within Erie County.
GEEDC stands for Greater Erie Economic Development Corporation. They are two separate entities. We do not share the same board of directors or mission. GECAC is in no way affiliated with GEEDC, except that they are our landlords. We have rented their building at 18 West 9th Street since the 70s to serve as our headquarters and to house our downtown Senior Center.

A good place to receive services for older people. However it is beyond terrible to work there. Managers do nothing but beat themselves on their chests to let you know they are in charge. I know I worked there and my supervisor once pounded me on the head and asked if anyone was home and I was only doing something that would greatly benefit the company, helping with their golf outing by folding flyers. Unless you like to be constantly belittled and enjoy feeling worthless, look elsewhere for employment.

Very helpful with getting services for my 95 year old grandma. Life alert, meals on wheels and depends are free. Karen huff was able to help us get aid hours and told us about many programs my grandma is eligible for.

The staff here are always helpful. The program has helped me with housing 2 times since moving to Erie alone with absolutely no family. I appreciated everything they did for my son and I. Angelique(i think her name is) even complimented me on my contacts after helping me with my paperwork just the last time I used their service. as she had some in prescribed from walmart as well. I was glad to know I was not the only one. She was very helpful in getting me the assistance I needed for housing. Thank you very much!

The one time I really needed assistance I went here to learn about a program. The woman at the front desk treated me like I was a burden and asking about this program was not a reasonable thing for me to do at the organization that offers the program. Luckily there is an alternative in Erie. If you need help with housing call EUMA {Erie United Methodist Association}. There they are friendly and eager to help.

We dealt with Angleique who was terrible. She had us coming and going for a tenant, needed to contact her to help out this tenant over and over when she needed something. Interestingly enough tenant wasn't even approved which would be fine, but she refused to tell us that or return phone calls when we asked while the tenant was telling us she was approved. Long story short, we wasted a lot of time and lost money because of the poor communication shown.

Although the help that I received was very good intentioned, in the end there was a little done by the insurance company. Health insurance should not be cancelled just because of social security increases. The staff at gecac was wonderful.

People enter this facility under the misconception that they are going to engage with a human being that can help wiith their problem. The image I uploaded of a pack of papers is the help which I received when I asked for help in finding a place to live. I am wondering if I could get real help with housing if I asked the hookers and drug pushers instead?
